 Yealey Families,

What a busy week we've had at school! Wrapping up units of instruction before break, taking our mid-year STAR assessments, a chorus concert, and some holiday fun added on top has kept us busy.

I have enjoyed being with students working on math problems this week.  Our fourth and fifth grade teams are learning about the Japanese Lesson Study Process and this week we invited district leaders to come and see this process. It has been awesome work so far and I am very proud of our teams for all they've accomplished!  The students are also doing amazing with these lessons and having an audience watch them solve problems.  It's great to see them be leaders and explain their thinking.

Next week we only have school on Monday and Tuesday.  Winter break starts on 12/21 and ends on 1/3.  So you will come back to school on January 4th.

It's that time of year to watch the weather reports and be sure to check the news for school closures before heading out to the bus stop.  The plan is to that we will have traditional snow days for the first three weather closures.  After that we may do work at home days.  If we get close to the three day mark, we will begin sending Chromebooks home and communicate a plan for instruction on those days if they do happen.

This will be the last blog update for 2022.  I hope all of you enjoy your break and are able to be with friends and family counting the blessings from 2022 and looking forward to the new year!  Stay safe and healthy!

Happy Holidays,

Mrs. Turner

 Yealey Families,

I hope you had a great week at home. It's been a really fun week here.  I've loved seeing some of their projects come together.  Some of our 3rd and 4th grade students were able to create virtual reality.  I can't wait to see all we do with this new technology.  The highlight of my week was seeing all the arts come together to host Evening with the Arts.  It was a great night.  Hearing the voices of children singing is one of my all time favorite things!  Thank you to everyone who came and helped celebrate our kids.  Even with the increased attendance for the event, I believe everyone was able to see their child shine.  It was our largest attended event in the last 10 years and we love all of the support.  We will look at ways to make sure we do the best we can with parking and crowd control so that we can continue to come together to celebrate our kids! Thank you to all the special area team for all their hard work.  I was definitely a special night!

Next week, our PTA will host a Santa shop during the school day.  If you'd like your child to participate, please look for information on shopping days and procedures from your homeroom teacher.

Next week we will also complete our mid-year STAR test so we can monitor the growth that the kids have made so far this year. Please encourage your child to do their best!

Have a great weekend with family and friends!

 Yealey Families,

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving break.  It was great to have a few days to focus on family and gratitude!

We hit the ground running back at school.  I have really enjoyed watching first graders decode words and challenge each other by changing the beginning sounds of words to make new words. I spent time in fourth grade seeing a whole class involved in trying to solve multi digit multiplication problems using an online tool.  They were so focused on using their strategies and figuring the problems out to improve in the game - so fun!

We have book fair next week.  Please see below for information from Ms. Wilson about setting up online payment options.  You can also shop during Evening with the Arts on Thursday!

Use this link to set up the eWallet and shop online: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/yealeyelementaryschool2

I hope you all have a great weekend! I look forward to seeing you next week at Evenine with the Arts!

 Yealey Families -

I hope you've all had a great week.  Hopefully you have been able to avoid all the viruses going around.  Please click on the the First Aid Room page to see a guide on when to keep your child home. The guide is available in English and Spanish. We hate when kids have to stay home but we just want to get and keep everyone well!

I have really enjoyed being with kids this week helping Kindergarten learn to write their letters and work on letter sounds.  I visited with fifth graders working on their culture and countries projects.  I also enjoyed time with some students who have been working hard on learning to read that came to my office to read to me!  We really have the best students here at Yealey!

Next week we have school on Monday and Tuesday and then we are off Wednesday - Friday for Thanksgiving break. I hope you all enjoy your time with family and friends!

Friday, November 11, 2022

 Yealey Families,

It's been a great week at school. I have enjoyed my time this week with our students. I had 4th graders present me with ideas for improving their learning environment. I was able to teach Kindergarteners how they can use the beginning sound and picture cues to read words. I observed 5th graders working together to make presentations on Native Americans. There has been so much learning going on here this week!

The highlight of the week was seeing our 5th graders and chorus hold our annual Veteran's Day program.  It is the first one we have held in person since Covid started and it was so great to see everyone together honoring those that served.  I am a very proud principal! (and no it wasn't me that served, it was our 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Turner and her son Jacob!)

Next week it looks like the weather will turn a little chillier.  Please be sure to dress your child for outdoor recess.  Most of our classes will go outside even if it's chilly.

There are lots of fun events coming up over the next few weeks of school as we work towards Winter Break.  Please be sure you are checking Bloomz regularly for communication from the homeroom teachers.

We had some money turned in to the office that seems to have been lost at the parent pick up area.  If you've misplaced some money please call the office.

I am looking forward to our Veteran's Day Program today.  Thank you to all who have served.

Have a great weekend with family and friends,

Mrs. Turner

 Yealey Families,

It is hard to believe it is November already! We had a great week at school.  I loved being in classrooms this week working with kindergarten and first graders on reading. I also loved analyzing stories with 3rd grade.  It is the best part of my days when I get to see students learning!

We are still seeking a minority parent representative for our Site Base Council.  If you identify as "...American Indian; Alaskan native; African-American; Hispanic, including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central American or South American origins; Pacific Islander; or other ethnic group underrepresented in the school”" and would be interested in serving on council please email me, renee.turner@boone.kyschools.us .

Officer Chapman, our amazing SRO, has put together some guidance for our morning drop off procedures to ensure we are entering school in the safest manner.  Please see below:

Our district has partnered with the Dolly Partner Library.  Please be sure to sign up for this if you have a child 0 - 5 years old at Dolly Partner Library .

Don't forget there is NO SCHOOL TUESDAY NOVEMBER 8th due to election day.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, October 28, 2022

 Yealey Families,

We had a great week at school! And we were able to end the week with a little Sharpening The Saw during our Costume Parade and Fall Celebrations.  It is so nice to be able to spend time having fun with one another.

In November we will start focusing on Habit 2, Beginning With the End in Mind.  Our action teams would like to remind you that,

    •  In this habit, we teach children to clearly define their vision and purpose in life, which makes all the difference.
    • To Begin With the End in Mind means to start every endeavor with clearly defined outcomes.
Beginning with the end in mind is the first step to creating a plan.  And without a plan, goals are just wishes or dreams.  This is the first step in making dreams come true.

Thank you to all the parents who came in for conferences this past Tuesday.  I hope you saw the goals your child has set for themselves and how we are helping them make plans to reach these goals.

Just as a reminder - there is no school Tuesday, November 8th because that is election day.

Students will be arriving home early today due to the early release day.  Teachers and staff will use this afternoon to analyze our testing data and share ideas with one another across the grade levels.  This is very valuable work that we can't do during a normal school day since different grade levels don't have planning at the same time.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend with family and friends.

Mrs. Turner

Friday, October 21, 2022

 Yealey Families,

It's been an amazing week at school.  I've really enjoyed reading with some first graders and helping students learn to write their letters. Next Saturday is our first Trunk or Treat event and I am very excited about this.  Please see information sent out from our PTA about it.

Thank you to all the parents who attended our student led conferences this past Thursday.  We look forward to meeting with everyone else who has signed up for a time on Tuesday evening.

If you arrive to school to drop off your child after 8:35, our parent drop off line may be closed.  You should be prepared to walk your child into the office and sign them in if it's past 8:40.  The state requires that we have a parent/guardian signature for late arrivals or early dismissals.  Be prepared by bringing your ID in with you when you come.  There are many scenarios when we will need to check ID.  Also, when ringing the bell, be prepared to state your child's name as well as the reason you are visiting.  It is often hard to see in the cameras especially in the morning with the way the sun hits the screen.  So, please be patient if we ask you to repeat something or step back.  We are just making sure that safety comes first.

This year we are being held accountable for attendance the same as we were before Covid.  During Covid our attendance expectations were a little more laxed for the obvious reason of the extended quarantine guidelines that we were required to follow.  But, this year, we are using the standard attendance procedures and it is very important that children be on time and in attendance whenever they are healthy enough to attend.   If your child has to miss it is imperative that you send either a doctor or a parent note so that they can be excused if possible.

Next Friday is our Early Release Day. Students will arrive home about 3 hours earlier than their normal time. Buses will leave Yealey around 12:30.  We will have our Costume Parade at 9:15. Parents are welcome to stand on the sidewalks and watch the parade.

I hope you all enjoy the beautiful Fall weekend with family and friends!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, October 14, 2022

 Yealey Families,

I am sorry it's been a couple of weeks since I was able to update the blog.  Unfortunately I lost my younger sister's husband to cancer last week.  Fortunately, I have such an amazing staff that I was able to take some time to spend with him in his last days and then to support my family after his passing.  Yealey is the best team and I am so fortunate to be a part of the Yealey Family!

Lots has gone on over the last couple of weeks.  Thank you to all the parent volunteers that helped make Fall Festival and the Breakfast with Bobcats such amazing events.  Also, thank you to everyone who supported our pumpkin sales.  Those funds will help our PTA continue amazing events and supporting our teachers.

Please be sure you have signed up for conferences with your child and teacher.  Our conference nights are Thursday the 20th and Tuesday the 25th.  We hold student led conferences and I'm sure your child is excited to tell you about their school year so far and the goals they have set for themselves.

Also, be sure to have the 28th marked on your calendars as our early release day.  Students will come home at 12:30 so that teachers can work together across grade levels on making schoolwide plans based on our latest data.  We will be having our Fall Costume Parade at 9:15.  Students are welcome to wear a costume if they'd like and everyone will be welcome to parade with or without a costume.  Please look for information from your homeroom teacher about Fall Celebrations that will also occur that day.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  Enjoy time with family and friends!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, September 16, 2022

 Yealey Families,

I hope everyone is excited about our Fall Festival tonight.  Most of the activities will be outside 5:00 - 8:00.  I'm sure parking will be tight, so please plan to walk to the event in case you need to park off campus.

Just a reminder that next month we have a couple of days off for Fall Break and a half day on 10/28 when students will be dismissed at 12:30.  We are planning on having our Fall Celebrations and Costume Parade that day so please watch for info from your homeroom teachers on this special day.

PTA Pumpkin sales end Monday.  Please be sure to sell some pumpkins and turn in the form Monday.  Events like our Fall Festival are offered for free because of the fundraising that the PTA does so please help support them.

Remember that we are looking for a minority SBDM member.  Please see the info below that was put in the blog last week for specifics and email me if interested!

BCEA is hosting a food drive.  Information will be send out from the district also but I wanted to let you know we are collecting at Yealey if you're interested in participating.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, September 9, 2022

 Yealey Families,

We packed in lots of fun in our four days!  Thanks to everyone who supported Kona Ice.  We use the money raised from this to help with different projects around the school.  Also, don't forget to check out the PTA page for opportunities to support our Fall Festival next Friday!

Just a reminder on our dress code. I ask that parents just send students in clothes that are comfortable for an active day at school.  Remember that even on days without PE class, students will probably be outside running and playing.  So, flip flops and sandals aren't always the safest option.

We are looking for a SBDM minority member.  Kentucky Dept. of Education defines this as

"Minority: American Indian; Alaskan native; African-American; Hispanic, including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central or South American origin; Pacific Islander; or other ethnic group underrepresented in the school."

If you identify as any of these categories and would be interested in serving as our council's minority member, please email Amy Roedersheimer, our SBDM secretary at amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us .  We would love to have you join us!

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend!

See you on Monday,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, September 2, 2022

 Yealey Families,

I hope everyone had a good week at home.  It's been great here.  Our after school clubs have kicked off this week and it's been great to see so many students participating!  We also did our Fall STAR testing this week so we have reading and math scores for students to grow from.

Just a few reminders on morning drop off.  Please pull into the lot and get in line to drop off your child to Mr. Jim, Officer Amy, and Mr. Rice.  Students should enter the gym/cafeteria doors.  There are staff available in the building to help students get to their classrooms and get breakfast if they want it.  Parent drop off students do not enter the same place as the buses unload.  We need to keep the lane in front of the library open for our buses to line up and release from.  If you have any questions about the process, please just ask.  We just want to make sure students are safe from moving traffic and going into areas with adults ready to assist them. Thank you!

Please see the PTA page of the blog for important information about upcoming events and be sure to check it regularly to stay up to date.

We still have 11 yearbooks for sale from last year.  If you'd like one please contact the office.

Remember there is NO SCHOOL on MONDAY.  I hope everyone enjoys their 3 day weekend and I will see all my Bobcats back at school on Tuesday!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, August 26, 2022

 Hi Yealey Families,

It's been a great week at school. This week we have worked on establishing routines and teaching procedures.  Our preschool students started classes this week and it's been great to see our youngest students back in the classroom.  We began our Leader In Me lessons - so ask your child about being proactive.  I'm very excited to hear that 14 families have signed up for the Family Challenge.  That is such a great way for families to have fun together and learn about the 7 habits we are teaching here.

Mr. Rice has been working hard to get Bloomz up and running for the school.  Please watch for information from your teacher about this if you're not already signed up. The students are responding very well to earning points and I am very happy with the positive behaviors we have seen.

I hope to see you tonight at the PTA Playground Party.  It is always a fun event and it looks like the rain will be gone by then.

I hope you all enjoy the weekend - take time with family and friends!

Mrs. Turner

 Yealey Families,

What a great start to the 2022-2023 school year! It was so great to see everyone back and catch up with all my Bobcats.  I couldn't be more impressed with the leadership I have already seen from our students who are returning.  Walking the building yesterday and being in classrooms really felt like they had been here for weeks already.

Everyone needs to be on the lookout for information coming home about our new schoolwide communication tool, Bloomz.  It is very important that each family sign up.  This tool has the ability to translate into multiple languages and can be used by administration and teachers. We will be using it as our main method of communication.

There is also information in the agenda book about how this tool will help us transition away from the clip chart for behavior . Please be sure to read the handbook that is in the front of the agenda book and sign the necessary papers.  These need to be returned to the homeroom teachers as soon as possible.

Special thanks to the parents who surprised us with the beautiful chalk drawings.  I really appreciate them and especially love the messages.  Also, thank you to our flower fairy who delivered again.  The arrangement is beautiful and certainly brightened our first day.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! See you next week for our first full week of school.

 Yealey Families -

August is right around the corner so I thought I'd send out a few summer updates.  We are still in the process of hiring for 1st, 3rd, and special education but we are ready to welcome:

  • Mrs Cline to kindergarten along with Mrs. Jane as her para-educator,
  • Mrs. Hicks to 1st grade,
  • Mrs. Browning to 3rd grade,
  • Ms. Stidham and Mrs. Tippett to 4th grade,
  • Mrs. Vandergriff and Mrs. Loehrke to 5th grade.
  • Mrs. Watkins will be taking over the STEAM lab, Lego League, and Energy Team.
  • Mr. Norbury and Ms. Colville to special education
Our supplies will be handled the same way this year as last year. This received so much positive feedback that we will make this a priority as long as we have funding.  Parents please provide a backpack and earbuds/headphones (your teacher will tell you if they have a preference).  Otherwise we will supply all the rest of the supplies.  Spend your last few days of summer out of the school supply aisles and your money on something more fun!

We will post class lists on 8/10 on the canopy doors.  If by some miracle they're finished earlier, I will let you know.

Our back to school fair is 8/11 4:00 - 7:00.  Come ready to meet your teacher, see your classroom, find out bus information, get your parent pick up tag, pay school fees, add money to lunch accounts for extras (breakfast/lunches are free), join PTA, visit our FRC, sign up for before/after school care with the YMCA.  We will have stations in the cafeteria, gym and library. At this time, we will not be planning for our annual potluck since the county is back in Covid red status.  I hate to give up on a good pot luck but will err on the side of caution with this.  But we are back to allowing volunteers - so be sure to sign up with PTA!

I think that's all the info I have now.  Enjoy your last 3 weeks of summer!
See you on the 11th,
Mrs. Turner

Friday, May 13, 2022

 Yealey Families,

What a great week we've had here at school!  It was so nice to be able to continue some of our May traditions this year.  First grade had their Fairy Tale Ball for the first time since our current 4th graders were in 1st grade.  Almost everyone has had their Lincoln Woods day and the weather was perfect this week!  Third grade will be going Monday - so fingers crossed this weather holds.  Thanks again to the PTA for providing Dreamy Whip ice cream treats for the kids while they're at the park.

We completed state testing this week.  Thanks to everyone for working hard and doing their best.  It was a crazy testing week with a fire alarm in the middle of the test but we handled that great and hopefully everyone could focus when they returned to the room!

Next week we will have our talent show Thursday evening 6:00 - 7:15.  This is always one of my favorite nights.  You have some very talented kids and I love to see them show their talents off!

Friday is the last day of school for this school year.  I am so proud of the progress the kids made this year.  Coming off a year of virtual and hybrid instruction was hard.  I feel like we saw a lot of growth in all the students as they figured out how to do school again and build their stamina for a rigorous schedule.  I can't wait to see everyone back in August after you take time to sharpen the saw.  I just know they will be rested, rejuvenated, and ready to learn!

Be sure to click on the First Aid Room page to see updates about medication and health conditions from our school nurse, Mrs. Stoner.

Make sure you have plans to attend the back to school fair on August 11th 4:00 - 7:00.  At this event, you will meet your teacher, see your classroom, and we are hoping to host our schoolwide potluck again (as long as Covid restrictions aren't back).  Watch for more information about this night coming out in July.  I will send an email and post info on our social media accounts and website.

I will also be posting a fun geography hunt on our social media accounts during my summer trip this year.  I always take the Bobcat along with me and this year I'd love to have kids following along and making guesses where he's traveling.  I think there will be lots of things to learn and see on this year's trip.

Also, make sure to come see us during our summer open library times.  Here is the schedule:

June 9th and 23rd.  July 7th and 21st.  The library will be open 11:00 - 12:30 and 5:00 - 6:30 each of these days.

This will be my last blog update for the year.  Please remember to watch email and social media for summer updates.  And from the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me to serve your families as principal.  It's the best job in the world!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, May 6, 2022

 Yealey Families,

It's been a great week here at Yealey.  State testing started this week and the kids are really focused and working hard.  We've had several classes on field trips also.  Kindergarten visited the library.  Preschool went to the zoo and 1st grade squeezed in a trip to Lincoln Woods before the rain hit today.

Tonight is our PTA Father/Daughter Dance.  I hope everyone that attends has a great time and enjoys dancing and hanging out.   Next week 4th grade, Preschool, Kindergarten, 2nd grade and 5th grade will go to Lincoln Woods please be sure to check with your homeroom teacher on specifics for those days.  PTA will be providing a special treat at the park also.

Remember there is no school on May 17th due to it being election day in Kentucky.  Our last day will be May 20th for students - just 9 more school days!

Have a great weekend.  Hope you pick a winner in the Derby tomorrow!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, April 29, 2022

 Yealey Families,

What a great week it has been here at school!  Thank you to everyone who came out to see our Celebration of Learning.  I am so proud of the kids and all of their hard work.  I'm so glad we could be together to let them show that off!

State testing starts Monday and runs through May 13th.  It is different days/times for each grade level, 3 - 5, so please look for specifics from the homeroom teachers.  It is very important that students are on time during testing because they are not allowed to enter the classroom once testing begins.  They would have to wait in the library and take a make-up test at another time if they arrive late on a testing day.

We also have lots of field trips and special days coming up at the end of school.  Please be sure you are returning permission slips so that your child can participate.

I hope you all enjoy the weekend!  I look forward to seeing you Monday to start the last month of school for the year.

Mrs. Turner

Friday, April 22, 2022

 Yealey Families,

Welcome back from Spring Break!  I hope everyone enjoyed the week off sharpening the saw.  It has been a great first week back.

Tomorrow morning is our color run.  It will be held at school this year and starts at 9:00.

Next week we are having a Yealey spirit wear

day on Wednesday so that we can show the Leader In Me audit team our Yealey Pride!  So, wear a Yealey shirt or blue and yellow.  Show your pride!

Thursday night is our Celebration of Learning for the year!  Details should be coming home from your homeroom teachers.  It should be a great night of showing off some of the things your children have been working on.

We will also be doing our end of year STAR testing next week.  I am excited to see all the growth the school will show in reading and math.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, April 8, 2022

 Yealey Families,

We had a very busy week here at school.  Fifth grader visited Tremont, TN in the Great Smokey Mountains for 3 days.  They had a great time and learned lots.  The fifth graders that didn't go to TN, visited Camp Ernst Nature Park and had their own outdoor learning adventure.  Fifth grade was a very busy place to be this week!

Fourth grade also took a field trip to the Nature Park and enjoyed a full day of hiking and outdoor learning.  It is so nice to be back to being able to take field trips.  I know the kids have missed these special days.

We also had our first regular whole school assembly this week. And it was a great feeling to have us all back together in the gym again.  Things are definitely starting to feel regular again and that is awesome!

I don't want to repeat the all call you received today about our evacuation but I do want to say again how great everyone handled the situation.  I am very proud of the students and staff for making that nothing more than just a short break in the normal.  Everything worked perfectly!

Next week is spring break.  I hope everyone enjoys their time and if you're traveling I wish you safe travels.

I look forward to seeing you back on April the 18th for the last five weeks of the 2021-2022 school year!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, April 1, 2022

 Yealey Families,

It was a great week here at Yealey.  I enjoyed working with students as they read new books and figured out math problems.  A great group of 4th graders today told me I made their brains hurt with the math problems we were trying to solve. I love this!

Next week we have our 5th grade group going to Tremont, TN.  I know they are very excited and are ready for an amazing trip!  Parents of students that are going, be sure they are here on time Monday morning - the bus is on a tight schedule!

Be sure our Celebration of Learning Night is marked on your calendars for April 28th and our Color Run is marked on April 23rd.

Have a great weekend everyone!

See you next week,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, March 25, 2022

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week.  We have been very busy at school.  It has been an awesome week.  I got to see 1st graders test their robotic lighthouses to see which ones were coded to turn on automatically in the dark.  The squeals of excitement when I turned off the lights and two lighthouses lit up and started spinning.  It's amazing what they are able to do!

I also had the privilege of reading a book written and illustrated by a Kindergarten class.  The book is about their future plans and career goals.  We have some amazing future citizens - lots of doctors, a reptile scientist, a trampoline tester, and several teachers.  I loved seeing their ideas and creativity!

We have a Menchies Night scheduled for Monday - so if you're looking for a sweet treat on Monday please stop by Menchies and mention Yealey's PTA.  I plan to treat my Dad - he has such a sweet tooth!

Fifth grade parents if your child is going to Tremont, please be sure you have all items turned in and you are ready to go.  If your child is going to take medication of any kind while on the trip, it is very important to let Millie know Monday if you haven't already.

Be sure you have our Celebration of Learning Night marked on your calendar.  That will be 4/28/22 from 4:00 - 7:00.  More details will come from your homeroom teacher.  It should be a great night of celebrating our accomplishments this year.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

See you Monday,

Mrs. Turner

Thursday, March 17, 2022

 Yealey Families

I hope you've had a great week.  It has been awesome here.  I wore a shamrock shirt this week that said "Luckiest Principal Ever" and as kids would read it I'd ask them if they knew I was the luckiest because of them.  I really do feel that way - you have great kids and I'm lucky to spend time with them each week.  A first grader told me "Well, you're the happiest principal ever." and I told him he might be right.  I think that's my next shirt!

This week I've spent time with some first graders working on reading skills.  I love seeing them turn that corner and become more fluent readers.  I've also spent time with some kindergartners working on making ten.  That is such an important concept for the rest of their math classes as it's the base of our number system.

Next week we have Kindergarten registration for next year's kindergartners on Tuesday March 22nd.  Please spread the word in your neighborhoods or with any family and friends.  It really is helpful to as many kindergarten students register as possible. We would love to see everyone register and come to our Kinder Camp!

I hope you all have a great weekend!  See you Monday.

Mrs. Turner

Friday, March 11, 2022

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week.  It's been an awesome week here.  We had our Leader In Me coach visit all day Thursday and help us complete a self assessment of our implementation of this program.  He gave us lots of positive feedback.  His two biggest take-aways were how awesome your kids are and how much trust there is among everyone here.  He was impressed with how they spoke about the school and their leadership here.  He said it is not common to be in a school where there is such a high level of respect among everyone.  So tell your kids great job!

Please make sure you have received the PTA color run fundraiser info.  If you haven't please see the link below from the PTA.  It will be held at Yealey this year and looks like it will be a fun morning of exercise!

Here is the link for the Color Run Calendar & Run Advertisement: https://www.wevideo.com/view/2600630140

I hope you have a great weekend - hopefully with our last taste of winter for a long while!

See you next week,

 Yealey Families

What an awesome week we've had! It was so great to be here on a Monday finally.  Luckily we had some great weather this week so kids have been getting outside for recess.  Please remember during this transition time to dress the kids in layers so they are ready to go outside and get fresh air when it's dry.

I have been meeting with out Student Lighthouse Team this year so that they can help me re-write our mission statement and so they can help me design a flag to highlight our 7 habits.  I love getting their ideas and perspective on what makes Yealey such a great school.

I hope everyone is joining in the Color Run fundraiser.  It will be a fun Saturday morning and should be an easy way to help us raise money. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to the PTA.

I am keeping my fingers crossed on the 70 degree day we've had predicted for tomorrow. I we are all able to get out and enjoy the day.

Have a great weekend!

 Yealey Families,

It's been a great week at Yealey.  I've spent time with 3rd graders who were coding robots, Kindergarteners counting by 2's, and 4th graders who were using text evidence to answer questions.  I am so amazed by all that your kids can do!

Our second graders have completed their book commercials.  This project has been something the 2nd grade has done for several years and has earned awards and recognition by several groups for it's integration of reading and technology.  The link to view some of these commercials is on our Facebook page.  Check it out if you're looking for a good book!

Next week we are scheduled to be here all 5 days and that will be our schedule until Spring Break.  I'm looking forward to all the progress we will make with this hopefully uninterrupted time!

Our Kindergarten Registration this year will be on March 22 4:30 - 7:30.  If you have a future kindergarten student please keep this date open to come get registered. If you know of a future student, please pass this into along so that we can get as many kindergarteners registered as possible.  If definitely makes things easier on us the sooner we get everyone registered.

Have a great weekend!

 Yealey Families,

I hope you enjoyed your long weekend last weekend even without a big super bowl win.  We are off again Monday but remember we won't have a scheduled day off  until spring break which is 34 school days away! Hopefully the weather remains good and we can get 34 days straight without interruption.

Tuesday, 2-22-22 we are going to have TOO TOO MUCH YEALEY PRIDE day.  So everyone wear your spirit wear with tube socks or a tutu to show your pride!

Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade students should have received a couple of emails today about basketball and cheerleading.  Sorry the incorrect links were originally sent - just an example of my love/hate relationship with google.  The second email has links to sign up players and coaches.  Please do this by 2/24/22 so we can get everyone organized and ready to start on 3/7.

Thank you to everyone who came to our progress check-in evening.  It was great to see so many of you back in the building and I really enjoyed watching students take the lead with these.

Have a great weekend!

See you Tuesday,

Mrs. Turner

 Yealey Families -

I hope you enjoyed the snow last weekend but I'm really glad to have everyone back to in-person learning.  And, you know I'm glad it's melting!

We have a couple of district changes that are occurring next week that I want to be sure you are aware of.  First, there is NO SCHOOL MONDAY THE 14th.  We will have school on March 18th to make up this day.  I am sorry this change to the calendar came so late but the decision was made last night at the board meeting.  Second, masks will no longer be required inside the school building starting Wednesday the 16th.  They are recommended but not required. MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED ON THE BUSES.  We will have students wear their masks into the classrooms and then put them in their backpacks as they hang up their belongings.  Then we will have them mask as they put on their coats and exit the building in masks.

Good luck to our Governor's Cup team tomorrow at their district competition.  I know they will make us proud!

See you next week - on TUESDAY,

Mrs. Turner

 Hi Yealey Families,

I hope you're all staying warm! I love seeing the pictures you've sent in to Mr. Dunlap for our social media.  Looks like everyone is enjoying their home instruction days.

Next Friday night we will be having a parents night out event again. Information on how to sign up will be coming home Monday:

Save the Date!
Our Yealey Staff will be hosting another Kids Night Out on Friday, February 11, from 3:45-7:00 pm. (Cost is $25 per kid or $40 per family.) More information will come home in a flyer on Monday, but we wanted you to know as early as possible.
This is a fundraiser to help with costs for our 5th grade Tremont trip.

Stay warm this weekend. I look forward to seeing you back at school Monday!

 Hi Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week at home.  It's been great here.  I know many of you are dealing with Covid right now and I want to send you my wishes for a quick recovery.  We have about 3% of our students and staff positive right now which is in line with the whole district.  My hope is that we are nearing the peak of this wave of the virus and things will begin to calm down.  Please be sure and let us know if there's anything we can do to help support you.  Our team is always available for you!

Students spent some time this week taking the mid-year CASE test.  This test is a very useful tool for teachers to see the progress students have made on standards and really help guide us for the rest of this semester. All grade levels participated.

Please remember to watch the weather and listen carefully for home instruction or a snow day to be called over the next couple of weeks.  As you all know, I'm not a huge fan of winter and I'm sure I won't be lucky enough to make it to Spring without at least one snow, ice, cold mess! 😊

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week.  Those of us at school have had a good week.  We have had a high number of student and staff absences which is very unusual for us.  Thank you to everyone who has been patient and understanding as many of us have had to fill in for positions we have not done before!  I'm hopeful that we will all be feeling better next week and things can get back to normal.

I have a few announcements from the PTA:

 Hi Yealey Families,

I hope everyone had a great winter break.  It was great to see the kids back this week.  They came in and got right back into the swing of things!

Hopefully next week we can have a full week of in-person instruction.  We do have staff members out at a slightly higher rate than normal.  So please just be patient with us as we work together to fill in for each other.  We have the BEST staff here and we are working hard together to keep everything going for the kids.  I can't say enough about how amazing the Yealey staff is.  They give so much of themselves everyday for the kids.  We love our kids and will do whatever we can to take care of the Yealey Family!!

As always if you need assistance with anything, you can reach out to our FRC, Mrs. Burns-Kraft, our counselors, Ms Anderson & Mrs. Taulbee, or your principals.  We will be happy to assist you.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

Mrs. Turner
