 Yealey Families,

We have been working very hard this last full week before winter break to finish our winter benchmarks.  Your kids have done an awesome job of showing us how much they've grown!  We have benchmarked in reading, writing, and math.  Homeroom teachers have had time to score writing samples, look at data, and start making plans for how to start 2024 strong.

Next week we will only have school on Monday and Tuesday.  Students will return to school on January 3rd.  Please remember to watch social media and the news for possible school delays or closures as we enter the winter months.  We will send Bloomz messages and phone calls but you will need to double check if you don't receive a call and we have had ice or snow.

This will be my last blog update for 2023.  I hope all of you enjoy the two week break.  Make time for family, friends, and sharpening your saws.

See you in 2024!

Mrs. Turner

 Yealey Families,

What a busy and fun week we have had at school.  Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders did a great job at Evening With the Arts.  The chorus and strings groups also had great performances.  Our special area team deserves a round of applause for all their hard work and collaboration to put together such an amazing evening.

We have also been completing our winter benchmark assessments.  I am excited to see the growth our students have made this year.  Next week we will do the principal tests to check in on their writing growth.  I am sure we will see great growth!

Thank you to everyone who supported the book fair this past week.  That is a great fundraiser that goes directly back to the library to keep our shelves stocked with new and exciting books.

Next week the PTA will run their Santa Shop.  Watch for information from homeroom teachers on when your child will have the opportunity to shop.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, December 1, 2023

 Yealey Families,

It's been a great week at school.  I have enjoyed watching 4th graders analyze text and pictures to answer questions.  I've also enjoyed working with students on multiplying multi digit numbers.  I love helping students figure problems out and see those "lightbulbs" go on.

Next week 3rd - 5th graders will be participating in Evening With The Arts. Please be sure to see info from homeroom teachers about that.  K - 2 will do their evening in the spring.

Be sure to click on the counselor page link Guidance Counselor for information about the Panorama Survey our 3 - 5 students just completed.

As the weather starts to get colder, please get in the habit of checking the local news or Boone County School's social media to be sure school is open especially if we've had any ice or snow.  We will be having at least 3 traditional snow days before we do any NTI days.  I will try to do an all call for all school cancellations or delays but don't use the phone call as your only way of obtaining this info.  It is important that you double check the news, Bloomz, and social media just to be sure.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  Can't wait to see my Bobcats back here Monday morning!

 Yealey Families,

I hope everyone has had a good, healthy past couple of weeks.  We've been working hard at school. Last week Mrs. Brown, Mr. Dunlap and their team of volunteers put together a great student led Veteran's Day celebration.  Thank you to everyone who were able to come join us to celebrate our Veterans.

This week I have been able to spend time with some first grade students as they worked on coding.  It's amazing what they are already able to figure out and it's a great way to work on their problem solving abilities.

Next week we will only have school on Monday and Tuesday.  Schools are closed for Thanksgiving Break Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  I hope everyone has plans to spend time with family and friends.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, October 27, 2023

 Yealey Families,

Thanks to everyone who lined the street for our annual costume parade.  It's always nice to have a little fun with the kids and see what costumes they choose.  I hope everyone has a great trick or treat night next Tuesday - stay safe and have fun.

Next week will be a normal week with school everyday.  But keep in mind that the following week we are off November 7th for election day.

Our first night of student led conferences is Thursday the 2nd.  Please look for information from your homeroom teachers on this.

Have a great weekend with family and friends!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, October 20, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope everyone has had a great week.  It has been a fun soccer themed week here at Yealey.  FC Cincinnati did an amazing job with the kids and I so appreciate them taking time for our school.  And special thanks to Mrs. Hedenberg for getting this so organized.  It's been awesome!

We still have too many parents arriving for parent drop off past 8:35.  If you pull into the parking lot and aren't going to have your child out of your car by 8:35, then please park and walk them into the office.  Students are late if they are not in their seat by 8:40.  You can count on buses being in the drop off area any time after 8:20.  So my advice is use the bus or get here before 8:20.  Those are the best ways to insure your child is on time and your morning is less stressful.

Next week we have an early release day on Thursday, 10/26.  Buses will leave Yealey around 12:30 so please make sure someone is home to get students off the bus.

Friday we will be having our annual costume parade.  Parents are welcome to line the sidewalks to watch the parade.  Please don't give students any treats during the parade. Anything you have to donate or give to the kids, please contact your homeroom teacher with how to handle that.  Students can wear masks for the parade if they are not scary and they can see through them clearly.  No toy weapons can be carried and should not be brought to school.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, October 13, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a good week and I hope you enjoyed Fall Break.  It's been a great four days here. I have enjoyed being in classrooms with kids as they were working on symmetry, regrouping in addition, answering short answer questions, and in Spanish class where students would tell their peers their favorite special in Spanish - "Mi clase favorita es arte."

Please remember to put our early release day on your calendar.  Students will be coming home on 10/26 at 12:30.

PTA will be hosting a Trunk or Treat/Fall Festival next Saturday the 21st from 1-4.

Thank you to everyone who donated fruit cups for our food drive.  We exceeded our goal of 650 by almost double - 1,181 fruit cups collected!  Thank you very much.  Our partnership with Go Pantry is very helpful to our school and they are a great resource for our community.

Jamie Lynch will be joining our SBDM council this month.  But, we are still looking for a minority member. If you are interested in serving as a minority parent member, please reach out to me or Amy Roedersheimer, amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us.

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, September 29, 2023

 Yealey Families -

What a busy, fun week we've had at school!  Two grade levels had field trips including an overnight trip for our 5th graders.  The kids had lots of fun and enjoyed the learning experiences off campus.  Track and field today was amazing as always.  Thank you to Mrs. Hedenberg, our teachers and volunteers that helped the kids spend a day outside playing together.  The community and team building that occurs during activities like this is so valuable to working together back in the classroom.  It really gives everyone a chance to shine and try new things.

There will be no blog update next week since we are off school Friday.  A couple of dates to keep in mind:

    Wednesday 10/4 - Picture Day

    Friday 10/6 - NO SCHOOL

    Monday 10/9 - NO SCHOOL

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, September 22, 2023

 Yealey Families,

It's been a great week at school.  I have so enjoyed the classrooms I've been in this week.  I saw 2nd graders writing paragraphs and 1st graders figuring out how to build a tool to solve a problem.  I also know that in Spanish class the kindergarten students have been learning who I am in Spanish and how to address me.  To my enjoyment they haven't quite mastered that yet but I love where they're going with it.  I've been stopped several times this week to hear either, "I know you, you're the princibull" (read it how it's spelled) or my personal favorite, "I know what you do, you're the queen."

We are still searching for a minority parent rep for our SBDM council.  If you are interested, please email me at renee.turner@boone.kyschools.us.  Per our bylaws and state laws, Minority members must be American Indian; Alaskan native; African American; Hispanic, including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central or South American origin; Pacific Islander; or other ethnic group underrepresented in the school.  We also are looking for someone to replace Jamie Peck on council as she as been hired at school and can't serve as a parent rep any more.  If you are interested please email me.

Thank you to everyone who helped PTA with their tie dye event.  It was messy but fun and I know they appreciated all that were willing to get in the mess with them!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, September 15, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week at home.  It's been an awesome week here.  This week we did the "principal test" which is a math problem/writing prompt. I visited each homeroom and explained the prompt to them and then all the grade level teachers along with the blended learning team read their responses and gave them feedback.  These are the scores we will use to help make instructional decisions in writing.  We will give another prompt in December and again in the spring so that we can measure growth and the impact of the strategies we are using.

Next week we will have our SBDM meeting on Thursday at 4:00.  The PTA will also have their tie-dye event 4-7 Thursday evening.  We will be sending home spiritwear order forms soon for our big Fall/Christmas order so be watching for that.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

 Yealey Families,

This 4 day week sure did fly by.  Our younger students are still working on Fall Benchmark tests and we should have them completed soon. We plan to spend some time in teacher teams next week looking at all the data from these benchmarks and making plans.

Our Thomas More students are back in the building having class and they will begin internships in our classrooms soon. These college students have such a positive impact on our students and vice versa.  I love seeing them interact.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  Enjoy this beautiful weather while it's here!

Friday, September 1, 2023

 Yealey Families,

It's been a great week at school. Our beginning of the year STAR scores show that we are off to a good start.  I've had a great week spending time in classrooms seeing students practice the 7 habits, work on beginning math skills, and discuss literature.

If you drop your child(ren) off in the morning, please try to arrive before 8:25.  The cafeteria doors are opened at 8:00 and will be closed and locked at 8:35. After that we will need you to come in to sign your child in. Some of our buses arrive early to school but most of them should be arriving right around 8:25 and unloading students for breakfast at the cafeteria line.  If you don't get here before this unloading there is a chance you will be stuck in the drop off line and run late for your day.

Don't forget there is no school on Monday for the Labor Day holiday.  I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and the beautiful weather!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, August 25, 2023

 Yealey Families,

It's been a great week at school.  We have been focused on getting back into the school routines and making new friends.  Everyone is doing a great job and the building doesn't feel like the kids were gone for 12 weeks.

Our dismissal process has gotten back on pace.  Our goal each day is to roll out of the parking lot at 3:45 unless there are bus issues.  We have met that goal two days in a row!  Hopefully this afternoon goes just as smoothly.  We still have two double run buses but we also have two additional buses that run a double run for middle school and so they are often late here.  Please just remember to stay patient.

Next week we will be doing our Fall benchmark assessments.  Please remind your child to do their best and show off everything they remembered and learned over the summer.  This year we will be using this data to make reading intervention plans with more detail than previous years' plans for some of the students. We will also use the data, like we always have, to plan instruction individually and as a whole class.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, August 18, 2023

 Welcome Back Yealey Families!

We had a great start to the 2023-2024 school year.  Lots of happy faces and getting right back into routines.  It was so nice to see all my Bobcats back and to meet my new friends.  I can't wait to see all the amazing things they accomplish this year. Bobcats are going to shine BRIGHT as we celebrate Yealey turning 60!

Thank you for your patience during dismissal yesterday and today.  Yesterday we rolled buses out at 4:05.  Today we shaved 5 minutes and rolled out at 4:00.  The goal will be to roll our first run buses and start moving parent pick up at 3:45.  Hopefully by next Friday that's what you see.  We do have one permanent double run already in place and will probably have another start on Monday.  So, watch for information from transportation concerning that possibility.

This message is from Ms. Wilson, our librarian,

If your student completed the BCPL Summer Reading Challenge or completed their Summer Bridge Book, please email megan.wilson2@boone.kyschools.us as soon as possible.  You can also send the completed book back to school. We will be scheduling our annual celebration soon and need all student names.  Thank you.  Ms. Wilson

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

 Yealey Families,

What a great week we have had at school!  We finished state testing, had a Fairy Tale Ball, visited Lincoln Woods, and celebrated the former Yealey Bobcats that are the class of 2023!  Next week will be just as busy with Preschool and Kindergarten end of year celebration, 5th grade promotion, and more Lincoln Woods days.  Please watch Bloomz for messages from your homeroom teachers to keep up with everything going on with your child.

This will be the last blog update for the 2022-2023 school year.  Again, it has been such a privilege to serve you and your children as their principal.  This year the first 5th grade class that I served as principal is graduating from high school.  It has been an unbelievably fast 8 years since they started 5th grade and I became the principal.  I know that we will blink and this year's 5th graders will be here walking the halls.  And I look at them and know that we will all be just as proud of them.  Yealey kids are the best kids and I'm proud to be their principal.

The last day of school is Thursday May 25th for summer break.  Our Back To School Fair is scheduled for 8/10/23 4:00 - 7:00.  I will send out more information about that and class lists at the beginning of August.  I hope everyone has a great summer vacation.  Enjoy time with family and friends and take care!

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week.  We have been very busy here with field trips, park days, and state testing.  We will continue all of this next week!

It is time for our MRA survey.  Please complete the survey at this link by the last day of school. MRA SURVEY

Remember there is NO SCHOOL on TUESDAY 5/16 due to the Kentucky election day.  Our school is a polling place and therefore there is no school.

Have a great weekend!

Friday, May 5, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week at home!  We have been very busy this week. Kindergarten and First grade is finishing up their final Fast Bridge assessment.  This is a great opportunity to see how much they've learned and grown.

Third - Fifth graders will be completing state testing over the next couple of weeks. Please be sure your child is here on time each day during this time.  They will not be allowed to rejoin their class if they are absent or late until they have completed any test items that their class has already taken.

We have field trips, PAWS awards, Lincoln Woods days, and other celebrations over the next three weeks.  Be sure you are signed up for Bloomz messages so that you are receiving all the latest information on the fun we have coming up.

Have a great weekend and I hope you pick the winner if you watch the Kentucky Derby tomorrow!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, April 28, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great last week of April.  I appreciate everyone who came out to help us Celebrate Learning last night.  The students were so happy and proud to show off their projects and all their hard work.

Next week we will begin state testing on Friday.  This will continue over the next couple of weeks.  Be sure your child is at school on time during these days.  3rd - 5th graders who are testing that arrive late will not be able to join their class until they have been able to take a make-up test.  Check with your child's homeroom teacher and watch Bloomz for specific messages about the days and times for your child.

It's hard to believe that it's the last month of school.  We have lots of fun learning opportunities happening this month.  Be sure to keep up with all that is going on by watching Bloomz!

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, April 21, 2023

 Yealey Families,

It's been a great week at school.  Lots of fun and learning.  This week I met with district office to review the renovation plans.  If you've been to school since spring break, I'm sure you've seen the roofers working hard on getting our new roof installed.  Inside, we have had architects around the building getting detailed measurements to give to the general contractors.  Over the next two years we will have lots going on and we are all very excited about watching our building get updated!

Next Thursday is our Celebration of Learning night 4:00-7:00.  Please look for details about what your child has to show off from your homeroom teacher.  We will have SBDM elections happening at this event also.  Please be sure to stop by and vote for you parent representatives.  We can't wait to see you Thursday evening!

Tomorrow morning is the PTA Color Run at Yealey. Looks like it will be sunny and in the fifties for our run so dress appropriately and come have some fun in the morning!

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, April 14, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope you had a great spring break last week.  It was a nice break and now we are ready to tackle the end of the school year.  The last six weeks will be packed full of special events so please be sure you are getting the Bloomz messages from your homeroom teachers.

The PTA is sponsoring a color run next Saturday the 22nd.  Please check their Facebook page for information.

As the weather gets better please remember to write names in jackets and send your children in gym shoes.  We will be on the playground as much as possible and often jackets aren't needed in the afternoon like they are in the morning.

Enjoy your weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, March 24, 2023

 Yealey Families,

It's been a great week a Yealey!  Monday evening we welcomed 39 of our future Kindergarten Bobcats.  It was a very nice evening but we need everyone coming to Kindergarten in the Fall to come in and get registered.  We will probably wind up with 90 - 100 students so there are lots of kids left to register.  If you know anyone on your street, neighborhood, sports team, church, etc. that will start kindergarten, please let them know we are anxious to have them come in and register!

This week I spent time with 4th and 5th graders doing math lessons.  Both grades were asking students to not only solve a problem but to also explain their thinking and create their own questions.  I love seeing their thinking and watching them work together to figure things out.

Next week is our last week before spring break.  We have several field trips and fun activities planned for next week.  Be sure you are getting your homeroom teacher's Bloomz messages to keep up with all we have going on.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, March 17, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I think we have fixed the issues with blogger and we should be back on track for the weekly updates!  It's been a lot of fun here today with some little ones hunting leprechauns.  To my knowledge none have been caught even with some very creative engineering of traps.

We have lots of activities over the next two weeks before spring break.

  • basketball/cheerleading will continue next week but just for two days.  Tuesday is girls and Thursday is boys.
  • Kindergarten registration is Monday - please pass the word to all your friends and neighbors who may have incoming Kindergartners next year.
  • Early Release Day Wednesday 3/22.  Buses will leave here at 12:30.  Parent pick up will be allowed into the lot at 12:20.
  • 5th grade has Tremont and Environmental Camp field trips are the week of the 27th.
Be sure you are watching for specific classroom information coming from your homeroom teachers.

The PTA event scheduled for this evening has been cancelled. They announced that cancellation last week.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend!  See you next week for just 4 1/2 days!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, March 3, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope everyone had a great week.  We have been very busy here.  If you have a 5th grader, please ask them how they did at Reality Store today.  Every 5th grader was given a budget and asked to make decisions about homes, cars, groceries, entertainment, etc.  It was a great lesson in making decisions and thinking about want versus need.  If nothing else, they have probably realized how expensive kids are! 😊

Next week there will be no school on Friday for a teacher flexible in service day.  Therefore, there will not be a blog update.  But keep in mind that the following Friday is our PTA Family Uniqueness Night.  I hope that you are all signing up to share your with us what makes your family special and unique.  It is such a fun night of getting to know each other.

Also, our Healthy Challenge starts Monday.  Try to help your child add vegetables and exercise each day.  Tracking sheets should come home with them.

I hope everyone stays safe and dry today and has a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, February 17, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope you had a great week! This week I loved spending time with your kids as we celebrated friendships.  And, I loved watching them show off their learning at our open house night.  They are so proud and excited to show off for you so thank you to everyone who was able to come.  It was a great turnout.

Information will be coming home today or Tuesday about the PTA color run fundraiser.  This was a fun event last year and I'm really looking forward to it again.

Don't forget that there is no school on Monday.  So, enjoy your 3 day weekend.

Mrs. Turner

Friday, February 10, 2023

 Yealey Families,

It was great to get 5 full days in this week.  It's unbelievable the spring like weather but I am really happy about it!

I hope you can join us at our conferences this Thursday.  While you are here be sure to stop by our Literacy/Math information session in the cafeteria.  There will be information and goodies to take home.

I hope you all enjoy the weekend!  See you next week!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, February 3, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope you had a great week and enjoyed our snow day.  It has been a great week at school.

It is time to give our Panorama survey in Atlas class again.  If you would like to opt out of this please complete this form and return to school Monday. Opt Out Form

Please watch for information from your homeroom teachers about our upcoming parent conference night on the 16th and any Friendship parties that will be held that week.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, January 27, 2023

 Yealey Families,

We have had a great week here at school.  We have been working hard.  The two hour delays are have gone smoothly.  But it has been really nice not to have a snow day so far in January.  It's been great uninterrupted teaching time.  Please continue to check social media, the news, and Bloomz each morning just in case there is a schedule change due to weather.  Sometimes the weather hits in Hebron or Union and not Florence so you won't always be able to tell when the district has to change schedules.

I hope to see many of you tonight at the PTA movie night.  Horton Hears A Who is one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books and movies.

Information was sent home this week to our 3rd - 5th graders about basketball and cheerleading.  If you are interested please be sure to get those forms returned asap.

Have a great weekend!  See my Bobcats here next week!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, January 20, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope you enjoyed your long weekend.  We had a great four days back to school this week.  We have focused on mid-year assessments this week and I'm sure your kids will tell you how hard they worked on CASE or FastBridge.  We will use this data to measure how much we've learned this year so far and what we need to focus on for the rest of the year.

It was great to see so many students earn awards at the PAWS Awards this week.  Thank you to the parents who were able to attend.  Please encourage your child to continue to work hard to earn an award at our last awards day.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

See you Monday,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, January 13, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope everyone at home has had a good week.  I know everyone here has been working hard.  I wasn't here as much as I would have wanted to be due to my daughter having an emergency surgery. But, while I've been here I did get to work with some 3rd graders on solving multi-step math problems.  I love seeing them try different strategies and solve problems.

We have no school Monday due to Martin Luther King Jr holiday.  But, remember to check the news and social media each morning during winter to be sure school hasn't closed for any reason.

Enjoy your long three day weekend.  I'm hoping for no surprises next week and I can have a normal four day week!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, January 6, 2023

 Yealey Families,

I hope you enjoyed your winter break.  It was so nice to have time to focus on home and family for a bit.  With a senior basketball player, I spent a lot of time in gyms watching games but knowing it's her last season makes it bitter sweet!

Please remember to watch TV or social media for updates on school closures and delays with winter weather being a possibility over the next couple of months.  We will use our all call system and Bloomz to send out information but it is always best to double check each morning just to be sure you didn't miss a text or call!

Our staff would like to recognize students who have participated in extra-curricular activities.  If your child does activities outside of the school sponsored activities, please complete this form so they can be recognized at our February huddle.  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSenuZ1Cry9_Y_FHTFLrTfmZr4XWzG2yX2v8gyIKbavrLXIFRA/viewform?usp=sf_link
