 Yealey Families,

I can't believe this is the last blog update of the year.  This year has definitely been a year of change and growth.  A year that I will always remember!

Construction is supposed to be completed on July 28th and new furniture delivered on August 1st.  Hopefully these dates stay true and we are ready to show off a beautiful renovation at Back to School Fair on 8/11/25.  The Fair will be 4:00 - 7:00 and we plan to have it inside again.  But, be ready to be flexible if construction is behind. I will send out communication at the beginning of August to update you on this.

With the construction, we are getting a new bus loop.  This means that parent pick up procedures will be different next year.  Our plan is to dismiss parent pick up students from the library and out the canopy doors instead of out of the gym.  We will still use our number system.  Separating buses and cars should prevent traffic back ups on Yealey Dr. and Surfwood Dr. and should make for a quicker process.

We will be having open library nights this summer.  Mrs. Collins is excited to see you for Library on the Lawn days 6/12/25; 6/26/25; 7/17/25; and 7/31/25. Watch for information from her on themes and times.

The district is moving all of our communication to one app for all schools.  So, we will no longer be using Bloomz but will be communicating through the new BCS app that looks like this in your app store:

Please download this app and turn on push notifications.  This will be our main mode of communication starting July 1st.  This will be one app for all of your students in Boone County Schools.  You will be able to go through and choose all the schools you want to follow.   So, be sure to follow Yealey!

Next week we have school Tuesday and Wednesday only.  Tuesday we will celebrate the promotion of our 5th graders on to middle school.  Tuesday evening is our Talent Show.  Then Wednesday we will have our normal end of year fun during specials.

Thank you all for your support this year.  As always, it has been a privilege to have a job that allows me to serve such a wonderful community.  I appreciate our families.  I am amazed by our staff.  And, I love our little Bobcats.

I hope everyone has a great summer.  I hope you get to spend time slowing down and enjoying family and friends.  Whatever you do, please spend time practicing habit 7 - sharpen the saw!

 Yealey Families,

We are right in the middle of state testing.  So far, things are going well and the kids are really working hard.  We will continue with testing Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week.

Next week we will also have 3rd - 5th graders at Lincoln Woods.  We will  have PAWS awards and our graduating seniors will be here to walk the halls.  Lots of end of the year fun coming up so please watch Bloomz for specific messages from your homeroom teachers.

Thank you to our newly elected SBDM members Jamie Lynch and Lindsay Ross for serving another term.  I appreciate your dedication and time to helping us make decisions for our kids!

Next week will be my last blog update for the year since there are only 7 days of school left!

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week.  We have been working hard here wrapping up our last units and assessments.  Next week we will continue KSA, state testing, for 3rd - 5th grades.  Please be sure your students arrive to school on time and are in attendance all day to prevent having to take make up tests.

We have Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 2nd grade going to Lincoln Woods next week.  Be sure to watch the weather and dress appropriately for those outings.

Don't forget there was a change to Boone County School's calendar for this year and we now have school on May 20th to make up for a snow day.  So, please plan accordingly.

Happy Mother's Day to all our Bobcat Moms! I hope everyone enjoys their weekend.

 Yealey Families,

I can't believe it's already May!  This school year has flown by and has certainly been a busy one here.  Next week we will begin state testing on May 8th.   This year testing will run all the way to May 21st. Please be sure students are on time and well rested for this time. Please watch for specific information about your child's testing days from you homeroom teachers.

Also, don't forget that May 20th is now a regular school day and is being used to make-up for one of our snow days.

All grade levels will have park days coming up over the next month also.  Please watch for information on those from you homeroom teachers.  It will be important to dress appropriately for a day outside.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and don't forget to pick a winner in the Ky Derby tomorrow!

 Yealey Families,

It was so nice to see so many of you last night at our Celebration of Learning. I loved watching the K-2 students sing and perform.  Children singing is my favorite music!  I also loved seeing how excited the kids were to show off what they had accomplished this year.  Your approval and excitement really is a very important piece of their learning.  Thank you for coming and supporting us and your kids!

I hope to see many of you at our PTA color run tomorrow.  It will be held at Lincoln Woods but feel free to park at Yealey and walk over.  I think that will be the easiest thing to do.  The event will start at 10:00 and ends at noon.  So far, it looks like good weather.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  See my Bobcats back on Monday!

 Yealey Families,

I hope you all had a good spring break.  It was great to see all the Bobcats back in school this week working hard like always.  Fifth grade went to visit middle school today and we have lots of field trips coming up over the next few weeks for all grade levels.  Please be sure to watch for info from homeroom teachers on these.

We have several events next week.  Kindergarten registration is Monday 4:30-6:15.  If you know of any child who will be 5 years old by August 1st, please be sure they know to come register for kindergarten Monday evening.  If they can't make Monday evening, then please contact school as soon as possible so we make sure to account for them when making class plans.

Thursday is our celebration of learning 4:00 - 7:00.  All grades will have learning to showcase.  See the flyer below for details:

Homeroom teachers will also communicate specifics through Bloomz.

Last night, the Board of Education decided on the end of year calendar.  Students will now have school on May 20th, May 23rd, May 27th, and May 28th.   This means Kentucky State Testing for 3rd - 5th graders will be May 8th - May 21st.  Our final PAWS awards will be on May 23rd and 5th grade promotion will be May 27th.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

 Yealey Families,

We have had a great week at school.  I had the privilege of  teaching kindergarten one morning this week and I am very impressed with the reading this group is doing.  Watching students become readers and seeing how proud they are when they can decode print is very exciting.

We are seeking nominations for our SBDM council.  If you are interested, please email Amy Roedersheimer so she can let PTA know you would like to run.  The election will be sometime in the next month.  Amy's email is amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us.

Next week is spring break.  Students return to school on April 14th.  I hope everyone is looking forward to the break and if you are traveling, have safe travels.

 Yealey Families,

We've had a great week at school.  Hard to believe we have just one week left until spring break.  It is the time of year when we look for volunteers to run for our site base committee.  If you are interested in running, please contact Amy Roedersheimer at amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us . The SBDM committee is the committee that meets monthly to give input on decisions.  It is comprised of 3-4 teachers and 2-3 parents and is led by me.

Tonight the PTA is hosing a fundraiser at Chuck E Cheese from 3-10.  Hopefully you can stop by and enjoy a fun evening!

Next week we have several field trips so be sure to check Bloomz for updates from your homeroom teachers.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

 Yealey Families,

Happy Spring!  I hope to see flowers blooming soon!

We are currently seeking SBDM parent representatives for the next two years.  Please reach out to Amy Roedersheimer if you have questions or are interested in running.  She can be reached in the main office or at amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us .

We will be having Kindergarten registration on April 21st.  Please encourage anyone you know with a child who will be 5 before August 1st, to be sure and register at that time.  It is very helpful in planning for next year and getting classrooms ready for students to be registered as soon as possible.

We have two weeks until spring break and until our next phase of construction is set to start. Hopefully we will continue to run on schedule.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend and if you're a basketball fan, I hope your bracket is still perfect.

 Yealey Families,

We have been working hard at school this week.  5th grade was able to experience the reality store this morning where they could make some grown up choices on housing, transportation, and entertainment all while trying to manage their budget.  It is always such a positive experience that prompts great questions and thoughts from the students.  Thank you to Ms. Anderson and all the volunteers that came in today and made this happen!

Fifth grade students moved back into their original rooms that have been completely remodeled.  Besides all the behind the wall mechanics being new, they have new cabinets, new floors, fresh paint and new marker boards.  I am so glad that these rooms were finished so that the class that had to live through the construction is able to enjoy some time in the new rooms!

Next week there is no school on Friday for a teacher training day. So, enjoy your three day weekend next weekend.  I not update the blog again until our next Friday in school 3/21.

Have a great weekend!  I will see my Bobcats Monday morning!

 Yealey Families,

Tonight is our PTA sponsored dance for 3rd - 5th graders.  I hope everyone has a good time.  Thank you to the parents and staff who are volunteering to make this event happen.

This week I enjoyed giving 4th and 5th grade students a new version of the "principal test".  The teachers and I have been working on the reading standards and making sure students have a deep understanding.  The good news is the kids reported this test was easy! But, in reality, the questions are mostly levels 2 and 3 so it's not really that easy.  We are hoping this means they have a strong mastery of the content.

It's almost that time of year again for us to elect new SBDM parents to our council.  If you are interested in serving, please look for information in the coming weeks on how to run for a seat.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Friday, February 21, 2025

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week at home.  It's unfortunately been a short week here.  I'm not going to say anything about how I feel about winter weather.  Maybe if I ignore it, it will go away!

Next week our PTA will sponsor a dance for 3-5 grades on Friday.  Please look for information from them on the dance.

Our construction is making good progress.  Fifth grade classrooms should be finished next week and they will move back to their original rooms during the week of the 3rd.  The fourth grade will move to temporary rooms that same week and construction will begin on their rooms.  They should be moved back around spring break.  Hopefully we can stay on schedule and have the whole building finished before next school year.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and I can see my Bobcats back at school five days in a row next week!

 Yealey Families,

Well, my hope that winter was a one event season this year is gone.  I hope you are all enjoying the snow when you can and staying warm.

I want to brag on the staff and students today.  Our construction crew accidently set off the fire alarm and therefore, we had to evacuate the building without advance notice.  Everyone followed procedures and exited the building just like we practice.  We were able to come back in the building within a few minutes once Office Brad, Mr. Jim, and I made sure the construction was the only issue.  I am very proud of how quickly and professionally everyone handled the situation and made sure the children were safe.  Good Job Team!

Thank you to everyone who sent in treats/supplies and volunteered for our Valentine Day/Friendship Celebrations.  I hope everyone enjoyed the day.

Remember there is no school on Monday for a professional development day.

Have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing my Bobcats back on Tuesday!

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week at home.  Thank you to all the families who participated in our Family Uniqueness Nights.  I have been looking forward to these all year and then I was hit with the stomach bug this week.  I hated missing it but I loved seeing the pictures and hearing about the great displays you all shared.  Mr. Rice was very impressed with everyone's ideas and presentations.  I really hated having to stay home but also would not want to risk spreading that virus to anyone. I hope we can do it again next year and make it even bigger!

Please look for information from your homeroom teachers about any friendship/valentine celebrations that might be happening next week.

Remember to check local news, our website, and social media if there is any inclement weather on school closings and delays.  I'd like to think winter is behind us with some of the temps we've had lately but I really doubt that.

I hope everyone has a great, healthy weekend.

 Yealey Families,

I hope everyone had a great week. It's been another busy week of learning here.  I have enjoyed hearing about all the writing projects we have going on right now.  Every student in the building is writing about their family and what makes you unique.  These will be on display during our Family Uniqueness Nights next week.  If you haven't signed up to come showcase your family, please do!  We can't wait to learn all about you.

Tomorrow our academic team will participate in district governor's cup here at Yealey.  Thank you to everyone who is volunteering to host this event. There is always a lot of work that goes into this and it is appreciated.  Good luck to our kids who are competing!

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Friday, January 24, 2025

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a good week. I am really happy to see the temps going in the other direction this weekend!

Please look for information from our FRC on prizes she is offering for our Family Uniqueness Nights coming up week after next.  I hope that everyone is able to sign up to attend.  It should be lots of fun and community building.

Enjoy your weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, January 17, 2025

 Yealey Families,

I hope you all found ways to enjoy all of this winter weather.  I am choosing to stay inside as much as possible and dream of summer!  It was nice to have everyone back this week.  Hopefully we continue without any more weather interruptions.  But, with that being said, don't forget that Monday is a holiday and there is no school!

Please remember to sign up for our Family Uniqueness Night.  We are very excited about this event and can't wait to see all the things you feel make your families unique.  If you have questions, be sure to ask your homeroom teacher.

There was lots of progress on construction over winter break.  The kindergarten and first grade students are back in their regular rooms with all new floors, cabinets, lights, plumbing, hvac and newly painted walls.  Second grade moved to their new permanent rooms.  And fifth grade moved to temporary new rooms while their rooms are being renovated.  The library was completed today with new lights, hvac, electric, and paint. Things are moving right along and I am hopeful that it will all be finished in July like planned.

I hope you all enjoy your three day weekend.  Stay warm!
