Friday, December 13, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've been able to stay warm this week.  I can't believe the February temps we are getting in December!

Thanks to everyone who supported the Santa Shop this week.  I know the kids are excited to come home with their gift surprises for everyone.  It takes a lot of work and a lot of volunteers to pull it off and it went very smoothly.

Next week is our last week before Winter Break.  There will be lots of  activities next week so be sure to pay attention to Bloomz messages from your homeroom teachers.  The last day of  school is December 20th and we return to school on January 6th.

Over the break there will be lots of work happening at Yealey with our construction crews.  When we return in January the office will have a facelift and hopefully Kindergarten and First grade will be back in their normal classrooms.  Fifth grade is now going to be renovated starting in January.  So they will help us move to their temporary rooms in the main hallway when we come back from break.  Things are starting to really come together and it's looking great!

There will be no blog update next Friday.  I hope everyone has a wonderful break and enjoys the holidays.

Mrs. Turner

 Yealey Families,

A big thank you to all the 3rd - 5th grade families who joined us for Evening With The Arts last night.  It was one amazing performance after another along with beautiful artwork on display. Also, thank you to the chaperones and Mrs. Brown for the great chorus field trip today.  If you'd like to see our chorus perform, their final performance for the season will be Tuesday evening, 6:30 pm at Florence First Church of Christ.  I love hearing my Yealey Bobcat Chorus sing and feel like the holiday season is really kicked off with this performance.

We are in the process of taking our mid-year benchmark STAR assessment.  I am excited to see the growth the students have made.  Parent reports will come home once all the assessments are complete.

Please be sure to pay attention to Bloomz messages from your homeroom teachers.  There are lots of fun things happening over the next two weeks and they will be sure to keep you up to date on everything going on.

We are continuing to look for a minority rep for our SBDM council.  Serving on the council requires a training each year, attending monthly meetings, and occasional extra meetings during the hiring process. If you are a minority and are interested in serving, please email amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us .

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

See you on Monday,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, November 22, 2024

 Yealey Families,

Just a couple of reminders today.  With weather turning colder please be sure to check the Boone County School website, Yealey's website, local news, and social media to be sure there is school.  Phone calls go out with that information but every year we find that there are numbers that have accidently opted out of receiving calls and then don't know until they miss something.  So, please just double check whenever you think there is a chance school could be on a delay or closed.

Next week we have school on Monday and Tuesday but are off Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.  I hope that you will have the chance to spend time with those you are closest to.  This is one of my favorite holidays.  Now that my kids are adults and all so busy the holiday gives us a chance to stop and just be thankful for each other.  I hope you get the chance to do the same.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, November 15, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week at home.  It has been a fantastic week at school.  This week I've been able to see first grade students working on their sight words and reading informational texts.  I watched second graders work on vocabulary words and reviewed student work in fourth grade grammar.  It was a very busy week with lots of learning!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help with our K-2 dance this evening.  I'm sure it will be a very fun event.

We are still looking for a minority SBDM member.  If you are interested, please email amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us .

As a reminder, with cold weather approaching, it is good to get in the habit of checking your phone, social media, and our Boone County School website if inclement weather is predicted.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, November 8, 2024

 Yealey Families,

What a great short week we've had!  Thank you to all the parents who came on Monday for student led conferences.  I hope you had a great experience hearing your child describe their school goals and plans.  I am sorry for the amount of construction that was happening during that time. There was a miscommunication among the construction crew about the event and more people than expected showed up to work.  In an effort not to get behind and keep us on track for the project, we went ahead and let them work.  But I was not happy with the amount of mess that caused and I apologize for that.

Thank you also to all our Veterans who came in today for our yearly celebration. Also, a big shout out to Mrs. Brown, Mr. Dunlap, and our chorus for putting together a very heartwarming show.

We are still looking for a minority SBDM council member.  If you qualify as a minority and would like to serve on the council, please email amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us

I hope you all have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, November 1, 2024

Yealey Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed Halloween and the end of October.  It was a very nice costume parade today.  Thank you to everyone who came out to see all our creative kids and their costumes.

Monday is our student led conference day starting at 12:00.  Parents or Legal Guardians should have signed up for a slot with the teacher.  Our Kindergarten and 1st grade conferences will be held in our new classrooms which are being finished as I type this!  So, they may not be decorated and completely put together but we are very excited to show off the new rooms and all the hard work that has gone into phase 1 of this project.

There is no school on Monday or Tuesday.  Picture make up day is Thursday, November 7th.

I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, October 25, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've all had a good week.  We have been very busy at school.  I have spent time with 2nd graders working on reading decoding skills and watching fifth graders practice Spanish in world language.  Lots of hard work happening here!

Next week we will have our Fall Celebrations on November 1 (not on Halloween as we normally do).  We are doing this so that we have a good, normal day of instruction on Thursday and then after everyone goes trick or treating and comes in somewhat tired and off schedule Friday, we can have our costume parade and our celebrations.  This will also be a day that movers will be in the building to move classrooms 1 - 11 to the new rooms!  We felt like this would be the best use of instructional time next week.

The following week we have several things going on.  November 4th is student led conferences.  November 5th is no school for election day.  And, November 7th is picture retake day.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, October 18, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week.  Thank you to all the volunteers that came out last Saturday to make our Fall Festival such a big success.  It's always great to see the kids having fun and as one first grader put it to "trick" the kids by wearing Bengals gear therefore making it hard to recognize me. 😄

Our student led conference day is coming up as well as our costume parade.  Please watch for information from your homeroom teachers on those events and be sure to sign up for a conference.  They will all be held on just one day this year, November 4th.

We are still in need of a minority SBDM council member.  If you are interested please email amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us

Our construction is coming right along.  It looks we will be moving to the second phase of the project in the next couple of weeks.  This means we will start using the new classrooms and the bus loop! The entire project has 6 phases and hopefully will be finished sometime in 2025.

I hope everyone has a great weekend with family and friends!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, October 11, 2024

 Yealey Families

I hope everyone enjoyed Fall Break.  It was such beautiful weather that it was hard not to enjoy it!

Our construction is moving right along and we are just a couple weeks out from having the first set of classrooms completed and from having our bus loop ready for use! When this happens we will have updated procedures for parent pick up so be sure to watch for those coming soon.

Also, please start watching for information from your teachers on our student led conferences coming up on November 4th.  You will need to sign up for the time that works best for you and your child to attend.  Report cards will come home by 10/24 for all students.

We are still in need of a minority member for our SBDM council.  If you qualify as a minority and are interested in serving, please contact amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us.

I hope to see everyone at the Fall Festival tomorrow 1:00 - 4:00 in the Yealey parking lot.  There will be lots of fun activities and the weather should be beautiful.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, September 27, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a good week.  Thank you for your cooperation in dismissing early today.  I know that causes some chaos but hopefully we are able to make sure everyone gets safely home.

Next week we are off school Friday and the following week we are off Monday.  So there is no school October 4th and 7th for a 4 day weekend. Enjoy Fall Break!

PTA will be holding mums and pumpkin pick ups after school today.  If anyone does not get there's today, you can make arrangements to get them next week.

I hope everyone survives the strong winds today with minimal effects.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, September 20, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you had a good week.  We had a great week at school. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make our Field Day perfect! Mrs. Hedenberg does an amazing job of organizing events for everyone to have fun and it runs perfectly thanks to all your help.

You should have received information on your child's beginning of the year STAR testing if you are in grades 1-5.  If you have any questions about that, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher to discuss.  We are happy to answer any questions that you have.

We are still seeking a minority SBDM member.  If you qualify and are interested, please email amy.roedercheimer@boone.kyschools.us .

We will be having another Bengal's spirit day on Monday for their Monday night game.  Feel free to wear your favorite sports team gear.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, September 13, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week.  Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for breakfast at Lincoln Woods.  It's such a nice way to start our beautiful Fall days.

As a reminder, please be sure to notify school before 3:00 pm if you want your child to be parent pick up.  It is best practice to send a note to the teacher with your child so we have the information as school starts but if you have to make a change during the school day, we need to know before 3:00.  We are getting close to the opening of the bus loop and once that happens we will be changing the location of parent pick up and bus loading.  So, it will become much more difficult and time consuming to make changes to the pick up list once we start using the bus loop.

We are still seeking a minority member for our SBDM.  If you are interested and meet the following criteria, please email amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us

I hope you all have a great weekend.

See you on Monday,
Mrs. Turner

Friday, September 6, 2024

 Yealey Families,

It's been another great week at Yealey.  I hope you all enjoyed the day off last Monday. This week we finished our STAR benchmark testing.  Over the next couple of weeks you will receive information from your teacher about your child's scores and where they are starting the year in reading and math.

Next week on Thursday we are working to have a high attendance day.  Any class that has perfect attendance on Thursday will receive 10 extra minutes of recess on Friday!  Let's see how many classes can achieve this goal.

PTA and our Title 1 department are hosting our annual Breakfast with Bobcats next week at Lincoln Woods.  Last names A-L can attend on Tuesday morning and M - Z can attend Wednesday morning.  It starts at 8:00.  You will have the option of driving your child to school when you're finished or we can walk your child to school when it's over.

We are still seeking a minority member for our SBDM council.  If you are interested and fit the below criteria, please email amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  See you Monday!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, August 30, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week at home.  It's been another great week here.  We have really started getting into academics with our benchmark assessments like STAR and assessments in our new reading series.  The students area doing awesome with procedures and their behavior.  I continue to be impressed with how smoothly this year has started.

Thank you to everyone who came out tonight for our PTA party on the playground.  I know the kids had a great time. Special thanks to all the volunteers who made the night happen.

We are currently seeking a minority SBDM member.  If you are a minority as defined by KDE and are interested in running for SBDM, please reach out to amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us

Remember there is NO SCHOOL on Monday for the Labor Day Holiday.  I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend with family and friends.  I will see all my Bobcats back at school on Tuesday!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, August 23, 2024

 Yealey Families,

We have had a great full week of school!  This week we continued to work on establishing routines and classroom culture with our Leader In Me First 8 days lessons.  I have enjoyed spending time in the classrooms seeing students react to stories showing their empathy and compassion.  I have also seen students practice writing letters and demonstrating letter sounds.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be doing our beginning of the year STAR benchmark tests. We use these results to plan instruction and make some mid-year goals.

The construction on the bus loop in the back of the building has been very busy this week.  The kids have had a front row seat for seeing a lot of dirt moved and it's been very exciting.  I can't wait to have this complete and open for our use so that we can separate parent pick up and bus dismissal.  I'm sure our Florence neighbors will appreciate us containing all our traffic too!

We are currently seeking a minority SBDM member.  If you are a minority as defined by KDE and are interested in running for SBDM, please reach out to amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us

Have a good weekend - get out and enjoy the weather!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, August 16, 2024

 Yealey Families,

We are off and running in the 2024 - 2025 school year.  It was an amazingly smooth start!  Even the kindergarten students came in like they've been doing school for years.

We have a delay in the shipment of our agenda books so I am attaching a copy of our handbook here in case you need it.  As soon as they come in, we will send them home and ask that you sign the page acknowledging that you have read the handbook and Title 1 Parent-Family Compact. Student Handbook  Last we heard they were on a ship in the Pacific Ocean.

Construction update - we are continuing in phase 1 of the project.  Our restrooms by the art room were open and ready for business when students arrived yesterday.  Work is continuing on our bus loop and I hope it will be completed soon.  Phase 1 should be complete by Fall Break!

This link will take you to the Terroristic Threat information we are required to send home every year. TT Letter

I hope everyone is getting back into the school routines and schedules at home.  Enjoy your weekend and we will tackle a full week next week!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, August 9, 2024

 Yealey Families,

Welcome back to the 2024-2025 school year!  We are looking forward to seeing everyone Monday evening (4:00 - 7:00) for our back to school fair.  We will have a Scavenger Hunt for you to complete and PTA will provide a prize to everyone who finds all the tables.  When you arrive find Mrs. Taulbee, Ms. Anderson, me or visit one of the PTA tables set up outside the office and gym to get your scavenger hunt paper.  Get signatures from all the required stops and then check back in with the PTA table to get a prize.

As I mentioned in my last message the big construction project is underway.  Currently we have rooms 12 - 21 being renovated along with the bathrooms outside of the art room.  Throughout the year, we will have different sections of the building getting renovated until we are all new!  This renovation has been a long time coming and we couldn't be more excited to finally see progress.  Thank you to the parents (current and past) that helped advocate for this renovation.  My Bobcats deserve a beautiful building and we are finally getting one!  It will mean a year of flexibility but know we will do everything we can to keep things moving smoothly and safely.

I update this blog every Friday we are in school a full week.  I will send a Bloomz message and an IC email with the link when I update it.  Please be sure to check that for schoolwide messages.

It's going to be a great year!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, May 17, 2024

 Yealey Families,

It's the last Friday of the school year and so the last blog update for the 23-24 school year.  It has been another amazing year at Yealey and I have so many good moments to sit back and reflect on.  This has been my 9th year as principal of Yealey and it has been a privilege to serve the Yealey students and families again.  I feel extremely lucky to be a part of this community and I love seeing my Bobcats grow year in and year out.

This summer will be a little different because our long awaited construction will begin in June.  The whole school will undergo a multi year, multi million dollar renovation.  I am so excited to see the results of this renovation - our building has needed this for awhile and I'm so excited to see it finally begin!  This will mean that next year will have different logistics and procedures for some things.  We will communicate any changes closer to school starting once we see the state of the grounds in August.

Our back to school fair is August 12th 4:00 - 7:00. Details on this will be sent out at the beginning of August.  Be sure to watch for that information.  It is our intent to buy the school supplies for students again this year.  We will need you to supply backpacks and headphones for sure.  If there is anything else, that information will be available at the beginning of August also.

Next week will be jam packed with lots of celebrations and fun.  End of kindergarten program and picnic will be Monday.  Wednesday is 5th grade promotion and our Talent Show is Wednesday evening.  Thursday our PTA is providing a special fun treat for students during their specials.

I appreciate all the family support this year and am looking forward to seeing you all again in August!

Have a safe, fun summer!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, May 10, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week.  We have been very busy here.  A big thank you to all the parents and PTA members who spoiled the staff this week.  You have all gone above and beyond to make us feel special.  THANK YOU!

State testing started this week for 5th grade and will continue next week for 3rd, 4th,and 5th graders.  Please be sure you have students here everyday on time.  It is important that students are here before we start testing or else they have to be kept separate from their classmates until we can test them.

Next week we have several grade levels going to Lincoln Woods.  Please be sure to watch for information from your homeroom teachers about anything special going on in with your class.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day to all the moms!

See you next week,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, May 3, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week.  We have been busy here looking at final benchmark data for all students.  I am happy to report that all grade levels grew on the principal test this year.  I am also very happy to see how excited the students have been to see their growth.  As a principal it's hard to express to every child how much I care about their academic growth and spending time with them giving these tests helps me show that. I am proud of their hard work this year.

State testing for begins on Monday.  Third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be testing at different time over the next two weeks.  It is important that students be at school on time everyday during this window.

A big thank you to all the students and staff members who went out of their way to spoil me on principal appreciation day.  I really appreciate the kindness!  Next week is teacher appreciation week and PTA is organizing fun for us.  Please see info from them about everything they have planned.

Please pay close attention to information from homeroom teachers on field trips and park days coming up.  There is lots of fun coming up too.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, April 26, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you have all had a good week at home.  Last weekend's color run was chilly but fun.  Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make it a success.  It is always one of my favorite events.

Parents please use this link to take this year's MRA survey, MRA SURVEY.  Information you can provide us in this survey will be used to help make decisions for our school.  The results are shared with our site base decision making council and the staff.  Also, we are still looking for a minority parent member on our site base council.  If you qualify as a minority and are interested in serving on council, please email amy.roedersheimer@boone.kyschools.us .

Next Friday our 5th graders will begin state testing.  They will have at least one section of the test to complete everyday through May 13th.  Please remember during this time it is imperative that you child be on time to school.  We can't let them join their class after the class has started testing if they arrive late.  Thank you for helping us with this.

I hope everyone enjoys the sunshine this weekend.

See you on Monday,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, April 19, 2024

 Yealey Families,

Welcome back from spring break.  I hope everyone had a restful week off and are ready to finish the year strong!  Tomorrow is our Color Run sponsored by the PTA.  I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Next week we have several grade levels on field trips.  Please be sure to pay attention to information from homeroom teachers so you are up to date on all the fun coming up.

Thursday evening will be our Celebration of Learning.  Homeroom teachers will send information for how that will look for each grade level.  I am excited to see this year's hard work on display!

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

See you on Monday,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, April 5, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you had a great spring/winter week this week.  Thank you to everyone for the early dismissal day.  I can't brag enough on the staff and how well everything went here.  Early dismissals are very rare and that was the smoothest one I have been involved in.

Next week we have spring break.  We have 28 school days after spring break. We will have lots of fun and lots of end of year learning to pack into these days.  Please be sure to watch for info from your homeroom teachers to stay on top of schedules and events.

I hope everyone enjoys spring break and has time to enjoy family and friends.  My middle son is getting married at the end of the week so the Turners will be very busy celebrating our new daughter in law and son and our growing family!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, March 8, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a good week.  We've had a week filled with reading and enjoying books! Thank you to the PTA for hosting our read-a-thon.  It was so nice to see everyone enjoying books and talking about what they were reading.

We are still in need of a minority SBDM member.  If you are interested in serving on SBDM and can represent a minority group, please email me at renee.turner@boone.kyschools.us

Next Friday there is no school. I hope you all enjoy the 3 day weekend.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Turner

Friday, March 1, 2024

 Yealey Families,

Today was quick but it was also the ending to a great week.  The teachers worked very hard this week finishing up our Lesson Study we've been working on all year.  It was a lot of professional learning for all of us and I really enjoyed seeing them complete such a big task.

Monday evening is Kindergarten registration for next year.  If you know of any children who will be 5 years old by August 1st, please let the parents know they should register their child.  The sooner we get children registered the better prepared we are for them!

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

See you Monday!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, February 23, 2024

 Yealey Families,

It's been a great four day week at school.  We hosted visitors from KDE and proudly showed off the hard work we have been doing here.  Next week we will be hosting visitors from Thomas More, other local schools, and from Chicago to finish the Lesson Study work we have been doing all year.  The teachers have been working very hard on this project and I can't wait to see the lessons in action.

Please don't forget that Friday is an early release day.  Students will be dismissed at 12:30.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  I'll see my Bobcats on Monday!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, February 16, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you had a love filled Valentine week at home.  It's always fun to have time for kids to focus on appreciating each other, their friendships, and showing gratitude.  I appreciate the letters I've received from students this week.  It is very sweet of them to remember me.

I was at a national conference last with a team of teachers.  We attended some very good sessions and are excited about sharing some new ideas with our teams. I heard and saw pictures that the PTA dance was very successful.  Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make this so successful.

We have no school on Monday.  See everyone back here on Tuesday!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, February 2, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you have had a great week!  We have worked hard at school. I've enjoyed watching students problem solve in math and work on reading new books.

Thursday evening is our Learning Check In evening.  Please look for information from your homeroom teacher on times and how the event will run.

Next week PTA is hosting a bow and bowtie dance on Friday evening for a cost of $15 per family and tickets are ordered ahead of time.  NO tickets will be sold at the door.

Our Leader In Me Action Team asked that I share our focus of the month:

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand. Then to be Understood:

This means: When we listen with the intent to understand others, rather than with the intent to reply, we begin true communication and relationship building. Seeking to understand takes kindness; seeking to be understood takes courage. Effectiveness lies in balancing the two.

Ask your child: Think of someone in your life who you think is a good listener. Your grandma? Your dad? Your best friend? What do they do that makes them a good listener? Could you try to do some of those things that make them a good listener?

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Mrs. Turner

Friday, January 26, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've had a great week at home.  It's been awesome here.  Thank you to the PTA for hosting a movie night Wednesday.  I know the kids really enjoyed that mid-week treat.

Parents please remember to watch and follow the signs on the street to avoid parking in spots  that prevent buses from entering Yealey Drive.  There are signs posted that need to be followed and of course whenever Officer Chapman gives directions please be sure to model the same behavior we expect when working with the teachers and administrators in the building.  Getting everyone in and out safely and quickly is our goal!

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  See you all on Monday!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, January 12, 2024

 Yealey Families,

I hope you've all had a great week at home.  It has been a very busy week at Yealey.  We had a huddle this week and were able to celebrate some students for doing the right thing and not opening an exterior door for adults even though they knew them.  SRO Chapman presented them awards and celebrated them for helping keep the building secure.

Monday is a holiday and there is no school.  Be sure to watch for weather delays and cancellations during this winter and spring season.  Phone calls will occur but it is a good idea to get in the habit of checking social media and the news to be sure school is running on time before sending kids to the bus stop.

I hope everyone enjoys the three day weekend.

Stay warm!

Mrs. Turner

Friday, January 5, 2024

 Yealey Families,

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a great break and were able to enjoy family and friends.  It has been great to see all the kids back at school.  Everyone seemed excited to be back and got right back in the swing of things.

Remember to check for school closures and delays each morning during this winter season.  An all call will be sent but it is important for you to check other sources if there has been weather and you didn't receive a call just to be on the safe side.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend and the snow if it comes.  I plan to stay as far away from it as I can.

See you Monday!

Mrs. Turner
